Dominica’s Secrets
Dominica’s Secrets
There are lots of places you will find listed in guide books and online as Must-Sees in Dominica, and it’s easy to come to an island like this, having done your research, with a checklist in mind of places you want to see. (I can totally help you with that list - my Dominica’s Highlights Tours are designed to cherry-pick the top 10-15 places on every single list. In just 3 days, you will have seen all the best bits and have lots of time left to ‘lime’ (just chill in the shade, lie on the beach, drink rum or beer and sample the local produce…))
But if you’re on a budget, or just a bit allergic to tours (I can totally understand this), then you will no doubt be tempted to hire a car and tour by yourself.
I’m a lot like this too when I go abroad.
And it’s perfectly fine to do that here - it’s safe, there are no dangerous animals or insects, and mostly places are fairly well signposted. You’ll miss a lot of the local colour and social history (we love telling stories here) but you can tick the sightseeing off your list.
And you will (I very much hope) have a wonderful time along the way - Dominica is incredible with or without her people :)
But here, in Dominica, it’s worth having access to the places that probably won’t turn up in your guidebook. Or if you have, you will really struggle to find them or get to them without some help. And that’s where I come in.
I have two secrets to share with you.
The first is a secret Beach Escapade. It involves a speedboat ride, a visit to some secret and interesting places on the way to a deserted beach, and lunch. I can take up to 4 people, and accommodate any dietary requirements you have. You don’t need to be fit, but you do need a little sense of adventure. It would be the perfect romantic day out if you wanted to plan something special. I’ll bring the snorkelling gear, organise lunch and everything else. You just need to bring swimming gear, towels, sunscreen and a smile. And probably a camera too (make it waterproof).
The second is a secret Evening Escapade. I’ll come and pick you up (again, max group size 4), take you for drinks with the locals in a little place I know, then we’ll go for supper, and perhaps we will find some music and dancing later. When we’re done, I’ll take you home. Come and see Dominica from the other side.
Dress code: chilled Caribbean. You don’t need to bring anything with you, except you will probably want your camera to record the crazy rum memories…
